Women of Zimbabwe Arise has released a press statement regarding the participation of their members in a march on the city of Bulawayo for water rights. The Bulawayo Residents Right to Water Campaign was formed in response to a proposed policy that would force citizens to use prepaid meters to access water. Prepaid meters have notoriously failed to improve conditions in impoverished areas and often lead to poor sanitation and the spread of diseases like cholera. Prepaid meters would likely restrict access to water rather than make it more readily available to those who need it most.
