Human Rights First applauded the acquittal of twenty-six men arrested in a December 7, 2014 raid on a bathhouse in Cairo, Egypt. The men, arrested and charged with “debauchery” and being engaged in homosexual activity. The acquittal is the first in such a high profile homosexual prosecution case. Though this is seen as a good sign, there has been no legislative action in repealing the laws with authorized the arrest, therefore question still remain regarding the rights and status of the LGBT community in Egypt under the new regime of general-turned-president Abedel Fattal el-Sisi.
