Human Rights Watch released a statement regarding developments around Klity Creek, Thailand’s biggest industrial waste site. Environmental agencies have found Klity Creek contains dangerous levels of lead poisoning. In 2003, citizens who lived around Klity Creek and regularly used its waters demanded legal action. This resulted in a 2013 court order from Thailand’s Supreme Administrative Court to clean up the waste. However, Thailand’s Pollution Control Department continues to remain inactive in light of the decision. Human Rights Watch has called on the Thai government to hold themselves accountable to the people whose lives are at risk because of this environmental injustice.
