Amnesty International has appealed to the South African authorities to develop a systematic plan to combat the high levels of xenophobic violence in the country. Over the past few weeks, anti-immigrant violence has resulted in the death of at least seven people, with many more refugees, migrants, and foreign businesses being a subject of attack. Amnesty has said that the government must fulfill its responsibility to ensure that foreigners are free from all forms of violence, from either “public or private sources, without discrimination.”
