In light of recent security issues, Israel continued its practice of “punitive demolition” of Palestinian homes, leaving twenty Palestinians, including eight children, homeless. The destruction is a carryover from the recent increase in violence in Israel and the Palestinian territories, which has left over eighty Palestinians and fifteen Israelis dead. Since June 2014, Israeli authorities have destroyed several buildings, leaving ninety Palestinian (fifty-one of them children) homeless and displaced. The UN is concerned about the increase in displacement and the continuing violence; Makarim Wibisono and Christof Heyns, UN Special Rapporteurs on the situation of human rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, are calling for strict adherence to international laws.
