Brittany is currently a 2L at American University in the joint JD/MA program in international affairs. She is originally from a small town in Western Massachusetts and went to college at Southern New Hampshire University. She graduated from undergrad in 2017 with a B.A. in Forensic Psychology and a B.S. in Justice Studies with a minor in Sociology. Her legal interests include international criminal law, international humanitarian law, and human rights. As a 1L she was a junior writer covering the Middle East and Africa.

Sabrina Escalera Flexhaug is a 3L from Annapolis, Maryland and is a J.D. candidate for the class of 2019.  She graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor’s degree in Latin American Studies, Environmental Studies, and a minor in Political Science.  During her time at Washington College of Law she has and continues to pursue her interests in International Human Rights and Civil Rights Law. She is extremely excited to join the Human Rights Brief this year as its Human Rights Digest Editor.

Dalya Kefi is a 2L at American University. Born in Buffalo, NY, she was exposed to the refugee and immigrant communities that her parents worked with. After graduating from SUNY Geneseo with a BA in Anthropology, Dalya worked with the Department of State in Port-au-Prince, Haiti as a Political Assistant. Before law school, Dalya worked for 18 months as an AmeriCorps VISTA in Bozeman, Montana serving low-income populations. She hopes to practice international human rights law and public defense after law school. To de-stress, Dalya enjoys salsa dancing, floating down rivers, and classical singing.

Jacob Hutchens is a 2L at WCL. He was born in Wheaton, Illinois, moved to Kentucky when he was three, and then up to Michigan at the age of nine. After Graduating High School, he worked for three years with the Humanitarian Organization GBA Ships, traveling with the organization to around twenty-five countries. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Spring Arbor University in 2014 with a B.A. in History and a minor in Political Science. Directly after graduating he moved to Germany to marry his wife who is German. They remained in Germany for two years before returning to the U.S. for Jacob to start law school. Jacob’s legal interests include Immigration Law and International Humanitarian Law.

William Vazquez is a 3L originally from Long Island, New York. After graduating from American University in 2015 with a B.A. in International Studies and a minor in Chinese Language, he spent a year teaching English at Confucius Temple Primary School in Nanjing, China. During his time at WCL, he has studied in The Hague; participated in the Kovler Project Against Torture; been engaged with multiple student organizations, including the Student Bar Association as a senator; and worked with the War Crimes Research Office, the Center for Human Rights & Humanitarian Law, and the Disability Rights Law Clinic. He is currently a student attorney with the International Human Rights Law Clinic. In his free time, William enjoys exploring new places, catching up on TV he missed while studying, and playing Pokémon Go.
